On the eve of these somber moments with the killing of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s son by Nato forces (an act that is clearly amounting to war crime), on the eve of these grey somber moments on the killing of the founder and Commander in Chief of Al-Qaeda Osama Bin Laden by the United States forces we have different perspectives being provided from different quarters to get to a sense of the significance of the whole atmosphere. But with all running commentary are we getting a good sense of these world events. With all the running commentary are we anchored to inner peace of what life is all about and what is the deep significance of these world events that are mushrooming all over on every turn of the clock?
What you get from the media is extensive loose reviewing of issues without any depth that will leave people anchored about the direction of the world and their lives. Shallowness is what explains most of the commentary on most talk shows, 24/7 news hour televisions and newspapers.
But watching Russia Today, Russian television broadcasting from Moscow, I came across some commentary that came to settle my mind at least. The commentary was given by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, he was speaking exclusively to Russia Today: His view of the whole situation is that:
Our number one enemy is ignorance. It is not understanding really what is going on in the world. The question is who is promoting ignorance. It is bad media. The media in general is so bad, it so distortive to how the world is. In every war that has started in the past 50 years it has been the result of media lies. The media could have stopped these wars if they could have searched deep enough. Basically populations don’t like wars. Populations have to be fooled into wars. Populations don’t willingly with open eyes go into war. If we have a good media environment then we will also have peaceful environment.

Yes, ignorance is the enemy! I see my four daughters, who range in age between 21 and 33, and how little they know. What they hear and see in the mainstream media is what they believe to be true. I have to constantly remind them to read, research, and view videos outside the mainstream in order to make sense of the issues. They spend more time talking about their hair color, nail polish, and American idol than they do about what is just or unjust.@kenny:we cant just call everybody ignorant that is not urging for truth everyday. i guess you could have used another example to make your point.... but being first source we know its TRUE.
I watch a mix of SkyNews, CNN and BBC. There is quite often some really good indepth analysis that seems quite unbiased. But I think you're right, if all media channels vied with each other to do really good investigative work the world would be a different place.
